Growing up a classically trained ballet dancer taught me form and strength, but it wasn't until I discovered somatic movement practices that I started to build a holistic relationship with my body. Over 20 years ago, I became a certified Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analyst - a somatic practice that looks at how meaning and movement are connected and how to repattern the body to move effectively and efficiently. This changed the way I thought about movement, dance and life and led me to other studies including yoga, meditation, poly-vagal theory and trauma informed pedagogy. After many years of teaching dance and somatics to highly trained college students, I've developed a deep interest in how embodied practice can serve as a self-care practice for anyone wishing reduce stress and burnout, increase resiliency and joy, and deepen relationships with the world.
My Mindful Movement course will enliven your body while helping you to connect to your inner-self as a source for joy and resiliency. Gentle movement practices blended with mindfulness and breath work allow you to focus, relax and engage more fully with the world and the people in your life. Central pillars of the work include intention, awareness, breath, kindness, rhythm, flow, and connection.
I'm also in training to become a Health and Life Coach, so if you're curious about making lasting changes in your life (big or small) or finding embodied ways to cultivate growth and connection, I'd love to hear from you!
